Bill is no stranger to the theatre—some might even call him a theatre relic! His passion for the stage began as a young boy, performing in the Gang Show at the Whitley Bay Playhouse. It didn’t take long for him to realise that performing wasn’t quite his calling; instead, he discovered his true talent lay behind the scenes in the technical side of theatre. Over the years, Bill became a well-known, much-loved, and trusted fly master, working backstage in theatres across the North East for decades. He has collaborated with numerous societies and Gang Shows and has also flown professionally with touring productions such as Joseph and His Technicolor Dreamcoat and with Opera North. In addition to his technical expertise, Bill has extensive experience as a Front of House Manager—a role he held for many years at the Tynemouth Priory Theatre.
After taking a sabbatical to care for his daughter Rachel, Bill is delighted to return to this role, supporting his daughter Claire in the process. He’s looking forward to dusting off the tuxedo and looking after our audience members once again. And of course, don’t forget to admire his impressive collection of jazzy bow ties!
